This book is so much deeper than it looks. I am sad it’s over, but the roller coaster of emotions it put me on…they all hit far too close to home. Let people love you, and let yourself love them back.

I loved this rom-com! Somehow Jimenez made the most outlandish plot points believable. I loved the character delelopment of both of the leads. Could not put down, I think this is my favorite book by Jimenez. Content warning: mild sexual content.

wow, I’m sorry but this was not good.

The FMC, Emma, constantly invalidates the MMCs feelings towards his mother because she’s projecting her unhealthy way of dealing with her own mother onto him.
She has a superiority complex with her kindness - she makes a point of telling everyone she always picks empathy over anger and she truly seems to think it makes her better than everyone else. It clearly doesn’t, because she’s miserable.

She does not deserve Justin. She put in zero effort on the dates, talked about how they were incompatible and she wanted nothing to do with the “baggage” in his life behind his back, kept talking to his face about how she was going to fuck off after, even though he communicated his feelings very clearly. She was just so disrespectful.

Justin is a fucking FOOL. He was a pushover. He liked her way more than she liked him, he’s spouting his feelings and getting CRICKETS back and still fucking pursued her. Her best friend - BEST FRIEND!!!! literally says to him “you will never get her to love you. She’s not capable of love” LMAOOOOO WOW.

Emma has deep DEEP issues. Everyone, including her, just keeps saying “she gets small” instead of calling it what it is. It’s sad. Nobody helps her, they just enable her and talk about her like a caged animal. This is marketed as a rom-com???? This is absolutely not a fucking rom-com. No way.

Also, why were there so many brand references?? Is this author on the Starbucks payroll?? They were mentioned incessantly. She also name dropped McDonalds, Burger King, Circle K, Taco Bell, Cheesecake Factory, Cold Stone, Doordash, Uber, Lyft, Sonic, Yogurt Lab, Punch Pizza, Tropicana, Hanes…it was unbearable.

This also felt like you could only read it if you were part of the exclusive Abby Jiminez club. I just want to read the book without feeling like I'm missing out on something. Stop bringing up your other characters like bingo I beg you.

If this is what I’ve been missing out on with this author, I am not interested in reading any more.
