To be honest I only rated it 4 stars because of Hopper Croakington’s story. I feel like the story kept dragging on and only in the last few pages was Drake introduced and actually did something but other than that the book was really good and my favourite stories was Maddie’ Lizzie’s and Dexter’s. I especially liked Dexter’s because the story had included Raven and her pet.

A collection of cute short stories. None of them are bad, but none of them are phenomenal either in my opinion.

I am so tired that I can't process books, so I'm trying to read books that don't expect too much of me. I thought this would be just the ticket to hold my hand as I read, but I couldn't keep it up. I'm honestly not sure if that's because this book is not very engaging, or if my brain was just unable to parse, well, anything.

Also, hedgehogs are prickly and the best.

A great collection of short stories. The focus on the pets of Ever After High gave a great excuse to tell some atypical stories about our favorite characters. I recommend that any fans of this series do not pass this one by.

Once Upon a Pet was a cute collection of eight different pet stories from the world of Ever After High. Some characters were revisited like Apple White and Maddie Hatter, and some were new perspectives like Hopper Croakington II and Darling Charming. I love whenever I find a new EAH book, even if the stories are short and a bit mediocre. Once again, the construction of the book is genius. All the pages have golden hearts, the pages spell out "Ever After High", and the cover art is adorable. Major props to the marketing team.

Duchess Swan and her swan, Pirouette
One of my favorite unappreciated characters is Duchess Swan and I'm so delighted she made an appearance. Her pet was prissy and I could care less about some weird random pet show. I got a glimpse of my foul female and that's all I care about.

Rating: 3.5 Stars
Bonus half star for Duchess sighting

Lizzie Hearts and her hedgehog, Shuffle:
Nothing too exciting except Lizzie has one of the cutest names for her pet.
Rating: 3 Stars

Ginger Breadhouse and her fish, Jelly:
I thought this was one of the more original novellas with an unorthodox pet fish. I thought it was creative for the daughter of the Candy Witch to have a pet turn into candy by a bad spell. It was cute and I find myself liking this character more every time I encounter her.

Rating: 4 Stars

Apple White and her snow fox, Gala:
Apple is such a ditz and didn't recognize all her pet's attempts to get cold was because she was an ARCTIC fox. Convieniently, there was a magic spell on the weather that postponed winter, which was quickly reversed. It was dumb.

Rating: 2 Stars

Dexter Charming and his jackalope, Mr. Cotterhorn:
This story did not make any sense but at least I got my dose of adorable Dexter and Raven interactions. This novella was confusing, but these two teens are so cute together.

Rating: 3 Stars

Maddie Hatter and her dormouse, Earl Grey:
This was the last story and really cute. Maddie is always so much fun and has the best jokes. This novella was how Earl Grey's old clothes were falling apart and he wanted some fancy new duds. It was filled with puns and a nice ending to the collection.

Rating: 4 Stars

There were some fresh faces that we had not read from their perspectives before which I was happy to discover!

Darling Charming and her horse, Sir Gallopad:
This story wasn't so much about Darling and her relationship with her horse, but how he came into her possession and his life story. It was intriguing with Pinocchio undertones and it referenced the beloved Pet Ceremony where each student chooses their pet. Darling is my favorite Charming sibling and is a total bad ass lady knight that I wish was featured more prominently.

Rating: 4 Stars

Hopper Croakington II and his fire breathing dragonfly, Drake:
Hopper's story was my favorite. It was so nice to read from his perspective as the Frog Prince who transformed whenever he blushed. It was very endearing and he was so charming in frog form. His crush on Briar Beauty was very sweet and I loved the way he lit her birthday candles with the help of his pet. I hope for more Hopper stories in the future!

Rating: 5 Stars

It was a cute collection of stories and a nice palate cleanser from my usual fare, but nothing to ultimately write home about. It was cute and my Ever After High monthly fix, but not as good as the previous novel. If you need something towards a Goodreads goal or something light to read, I do recommend this short anthology of pet stories. There was a short glimpse of Sparrow Hood in Hopper's story, my favorite male character. Blondie Lockes and Sparrow Hood headcanon?!
