A ghost story set in the 1920s about a young black girls move from the Jim Crow south to Philadelphia.
An emotional story about racism, family and unfinished business. Ophie is a great character trying to keep her head down but keeps getting tangled into the mess of the dead.

The perfect amount of horror for a scaredy-cat like me. As a Pittsburghese, I kind of wish there was more Pittsburgh, but otherwise, it's a good story. It's well-written and I think builds a great amount.

Twelve year old Ophie discovers she can see ghosts the night her father is lynched by an angry mob. When she moves to Pittsburgh and starts working for a white family with her mother, she meets more ghosts and ultimately helps to solve the mystery of a ghost's murder. A good story with good characters in a historical setting, will appeal to many middle grade students.
