I did not enjoy this one. There's an alien virus/invasion plot that has some clever elements to it, but is mostly just low-grade body horror, to which the Doctor reacts so coldly. Eight has the least amount of canon about him, and admittedly I have not read many of his extra-canonical adventures, but this seems wrong to me? Or at least unappealing.

I really enjoyed this short story. It was mysterious and exciting, probably one of my favorite short story from the collection so far.

This could have been such a good story. If not for all the sitting down and catching the human up on everything (including a lot of unnecessary detail) while saying there isn't enough time to explain everything. Remove all the "There's no time to explain" and all the needless ecplanation and this would have been an enjoyable little story.

I adore Eight, so I'm pretty picky about his stories. This story had great potential, but in the end, was disappointing.

This is a perfectly serviceable little story that doesn't aim too high: free of needing to involve an existing companion, it allows the Doctor to show up, investigate a situation, and leave again. And because it's McGann's Doctor - and it was written before he got more firmly integrated into the new series' lore - he's a bit of a blank slate, basically written as a cheerful and proper Englishman. That's all right, though. The chosen setting - the Nevada desert - and the horror-mystery tone, along with the presence of the American army (the only other characters), do a nice job of replicating, in miniature, what a late '90s McGann series might have been like. It's all very X Files by way of The Quatermass Experiment, and the Doctor provides just enough contrast to the rest of it that you can get a glimmer of a slightly different take on the series.

One of the better stories, just a bit on the predictable side.

The story is about a mysterious alien virus that killed in a horrible way all the people, animals and vegetables in a small town in USA. The Doctor joins the local forces and finds out the alien pathogen is the same that struck Gallifrey ages before. It will take all the Doctor's cleverness to prevent the pathogen to destroy the whole world.

A bit disappointing - 2.5*

Where has the magic gone from the 7th doctor? Yes, I know I am dealing with different authors but how can the quality of the plot and the characters differ so much from one book to the next...

I'm disappointed, really. There was so much potential with the eighth doctor especially as he has had the least air time and there were so many opportunities and avenues to explore. A shame.

Started off strong and spooky. Ended quickly and quietly.
