Darth Vader gets informed of where Luke Skywalker would be. He arrives to find about 4 dozen TIE Fighters. Vader kills most of them, before Luke crashes into Vader and takes them both down. Luke, Han, and the gang come to save Luke. Leia fights Vader, until his rival, Commander Karbin shows up to take Luke out himself. This sends Vader and Karbin into a saber fight. Meanwhile, Luke is pursued by Aphra’s droids and Chewie fights Krrsantan. Finally Vader and Aphra defeat Karbin. Luke is rescued by the team, and Krrsantan is defeated by Chewie and 3PO.

Really good action, not a TON of story, but some solid pieces that are awesome. I still don't get how anyone without the force can even fight against someone who has it with lightsabers. Vader should be able to easily outmaneuver him and defeat him (same issue with greivous) but oh well.

THIS is how you do a crossover. Six issues, no extra fluff or unnecessary storylines. Han vs. Aphra was fun, especially since she's basically the bizarro Indiana Jones. Triple 0 and Bee-Tee were great as always. Luke got a taste of the Jedi past like the last arc and Vader was awesome as ever.

Oh dear me but this was just So. Much. Fun. When I bought the first Vader volume I had no idea I would come to enjoy comic books so much. Well, the Vader ones, anyway. I don't think I'll ever turn into a true comic book lover but these, I do love.

Vader Down does not offer much in terms of plot. Vader is in search of Luke, Luke is in search of an old Jedi temple, they meet, fight and go down. What follows is a good old action adventure if ever I've seen one, and it's just as much fun to read as [b:Lords of the Sith|22012290|Lords of the Sith|Paul S. Kemp|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1398457143s/22012290.jpg|41325693] which is full of Sith-badassery, too.

Vader gets ample opportunity to show why it's not wise to mess with him. Leia gets a serious badass moment (and while I like Dr Aphra, I still like Leia better and she ROCKS!). Luke is, well, Luke. Han is Han and good at it ("your Majesty-ness" - *chuckle*). Triple-Zero and 3PO are hilariously different and similar at the same time, sharing the horror of having their arms ripped from their sockets ("this is MOST undignified"). There's a rather impressive Wookiee duel and a BT/R2 staredown. And there's Han and Aphra trying to outwit each other which is funny but could have been a wee better.
Sadly, there's also this Ackbar/Grievous thing whose name I can never seem to remember. Believe it or not but I've come to dislike him more than I've ever disliked good old Jar Jar Binks.

I'm most impressed with the artwork. Vader Down brings two teams together (Salvador Larroca and Edgar Delgado from the Vader series, and Mike Deodato and Frank Martin jr from the Star Wars series) and I cannot say whose artwork I prefer. I really like SL/ED for their details, for the many, many small things you find in their panels; but the colouring of MD/FM is just stunning. Theirs is a painting quality, you know, oil paintings and such, it's very perceptible, very much big screen-like. Also, I like their way of capturing facial expressions a lot better.

So yeah, I had a great time reading and now I have a most ridiculous longing for this to be made a film because, really? "All I am surrounded by is fear. And dead men."

Be still, my pathetic little fangirl heart.
