Warning: The reviews on StoryGraph are full of uncensored spoilers.

Unreadable for me. It starts in medias res and then backs way up to filler backstory.

I hate overdramatization in adventure lit. Already, this book has committed several (the ice and snow weren’t endless; they weren’t relying on “their wits and little else” - they had food drops and modern gear). The writing style doesn’t just let the story speak for itself - more like Krakaur than Dave Roberts.

I love these kinds of stories. I live in Seattle and have climbed Tahoma and skied the lower mountain several times. I volunteer with mountain rescue. I just couldn’t stand the style.

This story was truly fantastic! It reminded me of my own journies and adventures. I felt an immediate connection with the characters. I was on the edge of my chair reading this... And brought to tears several times as well. I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking for agood story of friendship and adventure.

This is a true story of what the human spirit is capable of, as well as a tribute to the author's lost friend. I only gave it three stars because I felt the author used too much climbing lingo and lengthy descriptions which were lost on a non-mountaineering reader like myself.

I wouldn't pick this up if you want to feel enjoyment while reading - I don't mean thay this is a terrible book, but that it's mostly full of really tough dissection of a man forced to deal with the death of a very good friend AND try to survive despite the overwhelming despair and physical obstacles. Overall important read I think if you're an adventurer at heart.

I personally didn't enjoy it because I have a complex about the rock climbing world. But again, in this instance it doesn’t mean a bad book - well written, important- I just didn't like it.

Okay so I don't know that I ever would have taken up mountian climbing (I don't think I could do it and I don't like being uncomfortable), but if I had any thoughts of maybe taking it up there is no way after reading this book. I cannot imagine. Very good read, though the thought of 'corking' just is not something I wish I never knew about.

jim and his friend mike price summit mount rainier with little trouble. on the way down, however, one miscalculated step starts a series of catastrophic events that will cost one man his life and the other to push himself to his physical and mental limits.

jim price writes with honesty and sincerity about the loss he suffered on mount rainier. he also discusses his grieving process and reluctance to climb again.

an interesting book about coping with guilt and loss.
