Nothing wrong with the book, I just abandoned it for too long and I can't see myself returning to it because I wouldn't remember the context. Hopefully, I'll restart it in the future. The part I read was really interesting, although as always with Farmer's writing a bit hard to understand sometimes for a foreigner, since he uses so many rare English words.

A fat brick of a book and quite a heavy topic with heaps of information, so it's taken me several months to get through. It covers the whole mess of history, complicated wars, sociopolitical struggles, propaganda, etc. behind the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, and a bigger look at the state of healthcare in many developing countries. Absolutely required reading to understand developing countries, West Africa and the healthcare system as a whole, and to learn to understand and make better political decisions.

I went into this book expecting a memoir of Dr. Farmer's time in West Africa treating patients with ebola. What I was NOT expecting was a detailed history of the area, making a connection between the imperialism that set the region on a path that led to an ebola crisis, and the crisis of the day.
I was also painfully aware the entire time listening to this book that I knew absolutely NOTHING about any part of West Africa's history in the context of world history, and I was glad for Dr. Farmer's course. He could have stopped at just recording his own experiences and sold a fascinating memoir, but instead took it 10 steps farther to make the book downright educational.
I found Fevers, Feuds, and Diamonds to be moving, informative, and well-time, all things considered. I've been recommending it to everyone!
