I was instantly attached to these characters and invested in their happiness. I have always loved The House of the Spirits and Eva Luna for the curious cast of players and fantastical worlds they all live in. I wondered if I’d be just as enchanted with Allende’s more pure historical fiction, and I’m pleased to say that I am.

Truly wild journey that a reader is taken on. Only comment for this book is that it maybe does too much, too many years, too many journeys, and too many twists and turns.

The middle got a bit boring but I like the idea of following the entire life of someone. I wish there was more descriptions instead of just facts and explanations of the past.

Compelling family saga and historical journey from 1937 to 1994 beginning in the Spanish Civil War through the rise of Allende in Chile and the overthrow by Pinochet. Deeply about love and family and survival.
