is it gauche to admit you skimmed a book??? after a certain point the from-scratch stories/characters stopped intriguing me and i just wanted to see how they all added up (
Spoilerbarely
).

but idk even when i don't like a murakami i just kinda respect the effort loi at least it was unique and felt like it had something to say

Reading Murakami is like running through a labyrinth, trying to find the exit inside of a dream connected to the real world.

It hard to explain how reading these books make you feel, but i like it.

Individual stories are brilliantly written but it doesn't come together at the end.

Rated good. I have mixed emotions about this book. My first Murakami book. There is some gorgeous prose in here, some sentences that made me want to go back and highlight them even though that feels wrong to me. But then the female characters in this book are SO flat, two dimensional, completely lacking in personality, and totally written to satisfy Toru's sexual desires. This book felt boring and old because of the attitude towards women. And the ending was also somehow rushed after 600 pages? Was also surprisingly graphic and violent. Not sure why I've rated it 3.25/good but I did.
