The last third of this story was well done; however, it was slow getting up to that point. Still a good police/historical mystery and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

Good ending, not sure about some of the subplots. Occasional word choices that are anachronistic or don't ring true. I may read more.

As a fan of the author's Detective Murdoch, I was impressed with her ability to create a very different main character. Tom Tyler is skilled, but often difficult to like, although moments of my compassion did leak through. As a fan of Foyle's War, the theme of murder set with a backdrop of wartime Britain is one I am familiar with and enjoyed. I have the remaining books of this series ready for more relationship building with Tyler, his family and community.

The last third of this book flew by!! It was a bit graphic in some of the kills especially a couple at the end (I was trying to eat lunch at the time) but a good mystery with lots of tie-ins and mysterious happenings!!
the biggest mystery of all was it a Nazi spy who killed one or both girls?

My final book read for 2016! I enjoy reading a good mystery for the end of the year, and since you have to wait two years for a new Elizabeth George, I picked up Maureen Jennings' Tom Tyler series. Thrilled to have a new British mystery series to enjoy! I own the next in the series, [b:Beware This Boy|13532140|Beware This Boy (Detective Inspector Tom Tyler, #2)|Maureen Jennings|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1344370598s/13532140.jpg|19093816], so I look forward to reading it soon!
