A really unique (and painful to read) look at rural/backwoods life in a coming of age story. I wish there was more of a resolution, but I’d be happy to read more by Carrie Mullins. I feel like there are plenty of stories like this - where a girl gets groomed by an older man and finds herself in a helpless situation - that don’t get told.

It's a shame this book is not better known and more widely read, because it's really beautiful in that sparse, quiet, cracked asphalt kind of way. I've read this twice, two years in a row, and have been stunned into silence both times. I hardly know what to say about this. Each sentence packs a wallop, each observation is keen and sad. Just a real, melancholy time.
