The most engaging and witty historical novel I have ever read. Depressing parallels to some modern social issues and a raw look at slavery in Jamaica. Eliza was a fascinating character and I never tired of hearing about her.

Felt a little all over the place. Ultimately understood where Bogle fit in but the turn to his section felt like an unexplained jerk of the wheel. Then a whole different book happened before we jumped back to the Touchet- Ainsworths. Would have better enjoyed just one of the stories lumped together here.

Had trouble getting into this one, but too stubborn to DNF. Some plot lines were intriguing but not enough to make me come back for more

I think I’m DNF-ing this for now :( i may return later, I can see why others loved it it’s just not for me right now. I will still buy anything Zadie Smith puts out!
