This play was the basis for a film adaptation starring Jason Robards. He also starred in the play. It’s an excellent story about a tv writer who cares for his nephew, and is subject to a visit from social services. The main character is a depressed writer who tries to teach a young boy to follow his dreams and not to follow convention.
