I do not normally like to read books by the same author ( in a series) close together because they are usually too similar. That was not the case with this Jack Reacher book. I had recently read a Reacher further along in the series and this one from an earlier publication was much different. I really liked it as it was not as unbelievable as to Reachers abilities in this one. He and Neagley were able to predict and figure out the mystery of who was after the Vice-President elect without the steps being too far out of the realm of possibility. I liked learning about Jack’s brother Joe and some of the family background. The bad guy cops were interesting.

This was a good thriller! The plot was the focus of this book and I was engaged and entertained throughout.

Reacher gets tangled up with the secret service this time when he is hired to do a safety audit by his brothers former girlfriend and when he finds many holes in the security in half the time he's given they wind up hiring him and Neagley to help protect the vice president elect(I think, might just be the vice president) from the current threat to his life.
I liked the situation in this story and that his BFF Neagley is in it again, though I do find his constant instalove/lust relationships tiring this was one of the worst because it's his brothers ex and she has issues.

I didn’t enjoy Hoelich as a character,  Neagley was great as always.

I don’t know that the result of the plot made a lot of sense. Two high school victims of sorts decide to assasinate a guy they haven’t seen since high school? And that guy is the VP-Elect?!

I like that Jack was working with a government agency backing him in this one. This one also read so much like an episode in a detective tv show--convinced they have their answers then making 180's.
