The first arc felt a little rushed and maybe a bit like the team was still getting their footing. Things really come together in the second trade/arc. It’s far more character focused, and there’s some nice twists(maybe some retconning?). The art is stellar, and it’s fun seeing The Maker pop up. The stakes felt real, and it’s still building to King in Black, but it remained very focused.

Venom and Eddie are bad people trying to be better. They’re trying. And that’s my favorite thing.

Whoever tells you comic books are incapable of or inferior in telling emotionally complex stories is full of ****. I know this is not he only example of such among comic books, but I was particularly impressed with Donny Cates' new Venom series. Excellent storytelling, nuanced complex characterisation, and absolutely sublime artwork. Can't wait for Vol. 3 in February!
