I like some of the stuff Caletti wrote, but the only character I liked was Vito (the dog). The others were rather flat and the bulk of the "action could have been compressed into a few short paragraphs.
I think this is Caletti's weakest book.

After the first 50 pages of this, I'm going to have to call it done.

Besides being all over the place, the excessive foreshadowing by the immature narrator is extremely grating. I was looking forward to this one, but unfortunately it's a DNF for me.

This book started off really good. I liked it a lot and it really did remind me of Sarah Dessen's books. However, it kind of became a little unrealistic towards the end. The thing with her love interest was really obvious to everyone but her (I think, anyway.) So the romance was kind of a let down, too. It was well-written and I will definitely read more by her. This just wasn't my favorite. I think her others will be good. This has a lower rating than her others on Goodreads (as of right now.)

Umm no. This book was a little weird for me. I'm not sure how I feel about it.

I love all of her books, but this has to be my favorite. It's beautifully written and heartbreakingly perfect.

"My home is yours for as long as you want it to be. But are you running, Tess?"
"Running away can also be running to."

What a great great story. I found Tess to be quirky but hilarious. I thought she was snarky but WOW, the life she was handed was tough so I think she earned her sass. I loved her humor and her thoughts, her pain and her need to hold on to her mom and the memory.

But I also understood her anger. Her dad abandoning her (even though I saw his reasons too.) This was so well done. I never felt Tess came off as a bad person or an awful kid - she was just trying to deal with things the only way she knew how.

Jenny, Henry, Sasha. What a crazy crazy spot Parrish Island is and I fully enjoyed their quirky ins and outs. This was a fun but heart breaking story that I fully enjoyed.

"I've learned my lesson: Don't let a suburban ranch house fool you. Nothing is regular on Parrish Island."

Honestly, nothing was. It was just fun and sad and real.

I've always liked books that had something unusual in them that I could learn about. This book centered around a girl, a girl who was determined to care for a fifty year old plant her grandfather had passed to her mother and who her mother had passed down to her when she passed away six months before the book takes place. I really enjoyed learning about this plant, but more then that, I enjoyed Tessa and her story. She was snarky and honest and a very entertaining character, as were most of the characters in this novel. I really loved the way this book was written, as if Tessa was telling us a story. As a big fan of Deb Caletti who has read every one of her books, but a fan who was not a huge fan of her last two books, I feel like this book brought Deb Caletti back. Regardless, I will always be a huge fan of Deb Caletti and I will always look forward to her next book.
