This book made me feel things. Like confusion (not sure this is a feeling but I'm going with it), annoyance, anger, then more confusion, then fucking anger, the annoyance and some more confusion. This is the second book I've read by Damon Suede and silly my was not prepared for the clusterfuck this thing is. While reading this I felt like I have skipped pages of description and plot because the whole thing seemed disjointed. And the freaking neurotic nature of the fucking conversations between fucking everybody!! It was like people were not finishing their thoughts or sentences.

The book is about Trip and Silas who are trying to have a grown up relationship for the first time ever. Trip is the most in-the-closet out-of-the-closet gay guy and Silas is a polar opposite. And I don't know what irked me the most. They create a graphic novel together. And then everything gets fucked because Trip and Silas are polar fucking opposites with baggage and hang-ups.

And fucking Cliff!!!! That queer baiting motherfucker!! Every time he appeared and talked I wanted to pull a Bradly Copper in Silver Linings Playbook and throw the book out of the window but since I have a Kindle and those things are fucking expensive I stopped myself.

Anyhoo, save yourself the trouble and read Suede's Hot Head.

I admit I was a bit apprehensive to read this mainly because it had a lot to live up to from Hot Head and reviews emphasized the comic/movie/cult tv heavy world, but in the end like most books, everything turned out ok. The technical stuff didn't bother or overly confuse me which made me realize I'm a bit of nerd/fangirl myself.

You have Trip - an allergic, nervous nelly who is actually allergic to real life. He's a bit agoraphobic, quirky, awkward and a stud who doesn't know it. He's a nerdtastic illustrator, shy and unsure about everything. Despite his meek manner, he's a take charge kind of guy in the bedroom - I'll let you see for yourself, *wink wink*.

Then you have Silas - a swoon worthy, self proclaimed meathead who is equally nerdtastic and works in special effects makeup within the movie industry. He's a player tired of playing. Beautiful inside and out, his confident, take charge attitude and oh so sweet intentions make him that more endearing as he begins a relationship with Trip and opens him up to new experiences (in the bed and out).

I have one gripe with this book
Spoiler and it's a big one since it overall ruined my ultimate enjoyment and rating. At the 75% mark where the big conflict comes into play - Trip's insecurity and how he hurts Silas, hurt me a lot. "You can't unsay things" and though there was a HEA, I still felt torn. AND it took forever for this to happen! The last 25% of this book is over 80 pages and spans a period of 2 months! Get your head out of your ass Trip! Gah!

Despite this, Damon Suede's writing to me is very distinct. There is a sort of vernacular or dialect that makes it uniquely his. The sexual dynamics were holy hell hot, but the overall story was not as emotionally angsty as Hot Head. It was however equally realistic, fraught with real insecurities, idiosyncrasies, and fears that showcase those first emotions that surface with new love - and that was beautiful to witness.

4.5 STARS...I loved every geeky moment in this book!...(I have a thing for geeks) I loved watching/reading Trips art come to life!...I almost felt I was there..saying yes!..thats total awesomesauce!...This author wrote a lot of very memorable moments/scenes...The sexual chemistry was just off the charts!!..I loved how Trips demeanor changed behind closed doors with Silas...just HOT!...but this book was so much more than that...you can feel the pain and struggle bringing the art out onto the page...at times it felt so naked and raw...real!....I also loved the secondary characters!...absolutely hilarious!...and Kurt...damn the man!...that guy needs his own book!...just to take him down a notch...BUT not too much, because his snark is what makes me like him so much:)..."Achievement Unlocked"...every time!...it made me smile...Im so gonna start using that!....The only thing that slowed down my reading was that sometimes I couldn't figure out who was speaking...but no biggie...This book still goes down as a fave read for 2013 for sure:)
"Achievement Unlocked!"..YES!(fist pumps air)..sorry, just testing it out...heheee

I really enjoyed this book but there were just a few things that kept this book at a 3 star rating. Tripp and Silas confused me. Maybe I'm an idiot or maybe it's just that I'm not a comic fan but their some of their conversations made no sense to me.

I normally enjoy long audio books. But this one may have been a bit too long. It felt like it just went on forever and Tripp just couldn't get his head out of his ass about Cliff. It got a tad annoying.

Narration on this was awesome! Charlie was clear and distinct. I had no trouble at all keeping track of who was speaking. He did a great job making each character distinct, even the secondary characters. And the sex scenes! HOT! I will definitely be listening to more of his narrations.

I really enjoyed this! Though some of the euphemisms were off putting, the sex was hot and I loved them in the bedroom. Outside of it, they had a few issues but I liked how they worked them out and that there was plenty of chemistry still there. I loved the comic book idea and added [b:Horn Gate|17792782|Horn Gate (Scratch #1)|Damon Suede|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1367870181s/17792782.jpg|24887253] to my TBR!

This is the story of Trip who is a comic book illustrator/writer and is a lonely nerd. He is obsessed with his boss Cliff, who is not into him but Trip has delusions that he is. So much so that he will illustrate anything his boss tells him to even if it objects with his creative side. While hanging out with friends he runs into Silas who is a makeup artist for a local television show. He is a nerd too but is known for sleeping around and never having a long lasting relationship. Trip and Silas bond over their combined love of superheroes and being artists and try to date each other with all of their respective hang ups. With some quirky characters they struggle through as they try and make it work.

Ok so I rarely give up on a book but when I got half way through I threw in the towel. The story was way too weird for me and I had a hard time trying to follow along. All I can say is I am glad I got a free copy because I would have been pissed if I had to pay for it. The writing was choppy and the sentences weren't complete. The characters spoke in this weird mix of nerd speak and physco babble. It was also had a lot of dialogue and I could never tell when one character would end speaking and another would begin. I have read things from Damon Suede before and have loved it. I guess I just couldn't relate to this one.

I give this story 1 star.

I was very excited to read Bad Idea, enticed by the blurb and with high expectations based on previous reading of the author's work - specifically [b:Hot Head|10506237|Hot Head (Head, #1)|Damon Suede|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1307050057s/10506237.jpg|15412114] which I read a while ago but just finished rereading by listening to the audio version and it was brilliant! If you get a chance, do check it out as Charlie David's narration really enhances the experience!

But back to Bad Idea....the fabulous characters totally carried this story and pulled me in to a world that sometimes doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I am not a comic fan, I didn't understand a lot of the tv show, movie or cultural references but I definitely appreciated the world's inhabited by Trip and Silas and their shared geekiness.

I loved both characters from the first moment they were introduced. They were complex and had real depth. They were real men with hopes, desires and flaws. And it was the flaws, the doubts, the uncertainly that really drew me in.

In the beginning of the story, Trip was sweet and awkward and bit bumbling in his dating encounters with Silas, so unsure of himself, whereas Silas appears relaxed. But as the story unfolds there is so much more to Silas than initially presented.

The story follows the relationship between the men as they learn to overcome the fears that have prevented them having committed relationships in the past but also deal with a myriad of issues in their careers. We learn of Silas' world of makeup artistry and get some inside view into the gaming industry through Silas' best friend Kurt. But it is Trip's graphic story Scratch that I found most interesting. Of course, I now have to read [b:Horn Gate|17792782|Horn Gate|Damon Suede|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1367870181s/17792782.jpg|24887253].

While I don't truly understand the comic scene, the fans and the conventions, it didn't distract from the story. There are references that totally went over my head but I don't think knowing the quotes and references was required, it was enough to understand the intentions. However, what I did find slightly distracting, was my inability to follow the dialogue at times. I wasn't necessarily clear on who was saying what at times. This lead to me rereading paragraphs to clarify and ultimately totally slowing my reading speed to ensure I was not losing the story. This didn't impact my overall enjoyment of the story but was something that definitely stood out.

This is a story of taking chances and overcoming fears. It is sweet and geeky and emotional. It contains some hot sex but ultimately it is about love.

A copy of this book was provided by the publisher (via Netgalley) in return for an honest review.

Things were going well with this one, but the ending ruined it for me. Their fight (which we all knew was going to happen, since it's how romantic books work) was not at all believable. Both of them, while on their own decided that the'd been wrong, and yet they refused to reach out to the other. And when they finally did meet up again, suddenly their own admissions of being wrong disappeared, and they were ready to fight again.

The rest of the story wasn't smooth, by any means, but it's been a couple of weeks since I read this book, and those notes have faded from my mind. I'll have to re-read it.

Ultimately, this book had its ups and downs.
