This was fun, but I seriously didn't remember most of it after a few weeks because it's a lot like other middle school books. Doesn't mean it isn't good, of course.

...I don't know what this book was supposed to be about. A girl with cat ears?

Gorgeous book about adolescent transitions, full of wonderfully realized characters and the drama that goes on everyday in middle and high school. See my full review here.

Ugh.
I was yelling at the girls in the book to make better decisions. I know I'm not the target audience for this book but I made it halfway thru and I just felt dirty. Seventh graders sexting? Middle school sexting, a knee, an ankle... oh wait, a belly button? Let's raid mom's nice bras to send pics? I got halfway thru the book, getting increasingly uncomfortable with it, and saddened by the choices our teens and tweens make in the absence of good, involved parents and mentors.
We just had banned books week. And I actively read banned books, did when I was a teen and a tween too. I'm sure this one was challenged, but it isn't worth banning. Because it isn't worth the attention. In addition to being creepy, it wasn't engaging writing either, so I can see it fading to nothing very quickly.

I loved this book! It is a great novel for middle school students dealing with the social changes of that age group, especially how personalities and friendships change. It addresses the issue of budding romance as well. It is "safe" in that even though it deals with some tough issues it does not use graphic language or extreme situations. It would be a great selection for a classroom book study for 6th grade.
