"and because they all told me to pay not attention...I sought him out next morning."

This book contained the titular story, The Colour Out of Space, as well as The Whisperer in Darkness and The Shadow Out of Time.
All the stories contained within bore the trademark elements of Lovecraft's writing; a learned man relates a series of events that results in the death or caused insanity of their colleagues or hapless isolated folk from the backcountry, they themselves are embroiled in the event but are able to survive by not delving too deep or too greedily into forbidden eldritch lore.
The concepts explored may be old to us but were fresh when written and tapped into the scientific discoveries of the day, in this case particularly the work of Einstein. The Colour Out of Space stands out amongst the three stories to me as the description of the colour that differed from any colour man had encountered before bore traits of what I would have considered radioactivity, for the colour seemed to leach the life and cause the degeneration of everything around it.
I am certainly biased in this opinion as I am already a fan of Lovecraft's works, but I really enjoyed these stories and look forward to reading more.

La couleur tombée du ciel, le cauchemar d'Insmouth sont les meilleurs nouvelles. Certains sont quand même en dessous du reste. Faut aimer le style horrifique.

A good entry into HPL works. Need to get used to the older writing at first but when the horror hits you will be speeding through the words.

After once trying to read At The Mountains of Madness, I wasn’t sure on Lovecraft, but do love the idea of cosmic horror.
The Colour Out of Space is everything I wanted it to be. It gives no real explanation as to what happened, why it happened, or how it happened, only giving you the events from the memory of an old man, a perfect example of extraterrestrial life(?) being unimaginable to humanity and causing mental anguish as people try to reason with what they’re seeing.
Also, despite Lovecraft being a known racist there’s little to no racism in this story, which was a relief.
