My favourite fantasy novel of all time. Chris Wooding nails it on the had with these characters, story development, growth of powers, the political strength of the Weavers and his stunning writing. All the ratings for this novel.

I love this series - the world building is fantastic and while they start out kind of slow moving once I get a little ways into it I can't put it down! Definitely worth reading.

Enjoyed the overarching story but the writing wasn't very good and used a few too many stereotypes

Had no idea what this book was or what it was supposed to be, but I grabbed it off the library shelf while browsing and was very pleasantly surprised. It's an interesting world (not Northern European in setting) and features a lead cast of almost all women. Very good book and I look forward to continuing the trilogy.

The world building was pretty cool and the writing wasn't bad, the plot was pretty interesting but the characters were really flat and forgettable. The bad guys had some disturbing habits that involved children so that was kind of shocking. If I was young and had a lot of free time I would definitely read this but I'm old and don't have time to waste on "average" books. Plus this is the start of a trilogy so I was worried about putting the effort in and then not being satisfied in the end.

Made it 130 pages in but now giving up.
