A very good Sherlock Holmes story with a contemporary setting and a different first meeting. Narrated from John Watson's POV, we follow their story as they get to know each other.

It's really interesting seeing how John tries to understand who his new flatmate is and what is his work while he still keeps going on with his life. His friendship with Karim is a constant in his life, they went through a lot together and from afar, never allowing it to fall through the cracks of life. Knowing from the very beginning that he was to be killed really dimmed my enjoyment while I was reading, particularly when we discover that he has fallen in love. When he is finally killed, it was crushing, even when I knew it was coming :(

The mystery isn't the principal theme in the story, as it takes only the last third of it, but it was engaging, and its building through Karim comments to John very smartly done.

The romance is lovely, with moments very Sherlockian, indeed *laughs* There is a slow build of feelings between the two men, but when they finally come together, they certainly make up for the lost time *laughs*

In short, a very enjoyable story :)
