A thrilling story about the afterlife and spirit world.  It's a good story about honoring and remembering those that have died about also about the dangers of not moving in and forgetting who you are.

A lovely, lighthearted yet still at times poignant introduction to a new nonbinary character in the world of DC comics! I thought this book was fun, but I found the pacing at least for me to be a little staggering? But I think that’s moreso a quality of having so much you want to cover and only six issues to do it rather than a slight on the story itself. Xanthe was interesting, I feel like I didn’t get to know all of what I would have liked to know about them, and I feel like this team should set the stage with them more before letting them out into the larger sandbox for other writers to play with. But what we did learn, their past, their power, and their relationships, was interesting! I think they show a lot of promise and like all queer characters at a Big Two comics publisher I want the world for them. Here’s hoping for more adventures!

Debut of the new nonbinary Chinese-American hero Xanthe "Envoy" Zhao, a link between the living and spirit worlds. The follow-up of Cass Cain (Batgirl) falling into the Spirit World during the Lazarus Planet event, and continuing the story on with the collaboration between Xanthe and John Constantine. A really interesting exploration of the relationship between culture and superpowers (Xanthe's powers are based specifically on the cultural practice of joss paper burning, in order to give offerings to the dead in the spirit world) and gender, family, and everything in-between. Wong juggles the Xanthe and Constantine plot well with Cassandra's in the Spirit World, and once they converge writes a convincing and compelling team dynamic between characters which are getting to know each other (and I am getting to know two of them).

Slightly "friendship is magic" ending, but I can appreciate some whimsy and happiness in a  queer-centered story.
Envoy is setting up to be a highly interesting player, and I am intrigued to see how they move forward. I would be interested to see them interact with Zatanna, or to further their current partnership with Constantine.

The colours!?!? This spirt world story has some of the most beautiful colour choices I have ever read in a comic - magic explodes from page to page. I know very little about Bat Girl, Constantine or Xanthe, but this is a short series I wanted to squeeze in while I had a free trial of DC Infinite. So so so cool. Alyssa Wong just rocks, they are an awesome non-binary writer to read.
