Masterful writing. Absolute freak of a main character and felt like it took me five years to read (it was four days). Dragged on and then picked up as the emotions took to their rollercoaster, which is a skill. Overall an equally pleasant and unpleasant experience.

PLOT / CHARTER REVIEW
I FEEL FOR ELIO, HES YOUNG AND BLINDED BY LOVE.
HIS SELF-WORTH GETS WRAPPED UP IN OLIVER. HES TOO READY TO FORGIVE OLIVER FOR ABANDONING HIM WITH LITTLE TO NO EXPLANATION. I THINK ELIO SEES HIM ALMOST AS THIS GODLY FIGURE. ELIO NEEDS TO KNOW HES A PERSON WHO HAS HIS OWN IDENTITY WITH OUT OLIVER AND THAT WHILE THE TIMES IN B WITH OLIVER WERE AMAZING, ELIO IS SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT

OLIVER. I DIDNT MIND HIM AT THE START OF THE BOOK BUT TOWARDS THE END SPECIFICALLY THE 4TH PART BECOMES SO AGITATING. HE ACTS LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED WITH HIM AND ELIO. ITS WRONG THAT HE ENGAGED IN SOMETHING WITH SOMEONE 10 YEARS YOUNGER THAN HIM IF YOUR GOING TO GO FOR SOMEONE 10 YEARS YOUNGER THAN YOU, YOU CANT POSSIBLE THINK THAT LEAVING SO ABRUPTLY AND NOT SPEAKING FOR 9 YEAR WONT LEAVE HIM WITH A SCAR. HE WAS ONLY 17 AND YOU CANT THINK THAT THATS OK.

OK SO I HAVE LOTS TO SAY ABOUT THIS BOOK.
PART 1 & 2 WERE THE BEST PARTS/ CHAPTERS OF THE BOOK BECAUSE ELIO WASNT LOOSING SITE OF HIS WORTH.

PART 3 FELT LIKE IT DRAGED ON FOR TOO LONG AND ONLY REALLY GAVE PLOT VALUE IN THE LAST 10 PAGES

PART 4 WAS RUSHED, IT SKIPS LIKE 9 YEARS AND ELIO STILL IS WILLING TO RUN BACK TO HIM.

To begin with i enjoyed the book. The writing is pretty and atmospheric and I was interested to see how Elio's obsession would develop and effect him throughout the book. I soon realised that Elio's obsess veness was not something that was considered by the author to be a flaw but that it was something raw, authentic and romantic about elio.

Except for the writing I did enjoy the story about elio confronting his queerness but ultimately giving up and how that obviously left him with regret for the rest of his life.

Now what I didn't enjoy. Some of the passages in the book were truly disgusting. Elio is creepy and sex-obsessed.. and not much else. He's a professor's son which makes him intelligent (apparently?). Generally i found Elio annoying and flat as a main character and I wish Oliver hadn't responded so readily to his advances so that elio might've had to confront his obsessive nature. There's a whole part about this poet fetishizing his trip to Bangkok which felt very uncomfortable to me... I assume it had some relevance to the story between elio and Oliver but it didn't seem to make much of an impact on them. I could go on...
