This is a beautiful story about Father Snow who asks various flowers if they will share their color with the snow. The flowers are flattered at first, and then they get jealous. It was a great story about various emotions children may feel.

The art in this book is so beautiful and makes this book more beautiful, and my nanny kid really enjoyed how pretty the pictures were.

Meh. Story didn't hold much appeal for me. It was never explained WHY the flowers all NEEDED their colors. Also - on the first page it clearly says Mira's wearing WHITE pajamas; why, then, in the illustration, are they pink?

Too short and repetitive for a 9 year old, whose interest wasn't piqued, but who did comment on the flowers' stinginess, and on Father Snow's illogical vengefulness once he did get his beautiful, bright colour.
We did appreciate the illustrations and talk about the different plants pictured on the pages. My son was also delighted by the theme-colour that each set of pages sported based on the text.
We read the book in Romanian, which was nicely translated from German by Marilena Iovu.

This is an interesting fairytale. Snow was once transparent. Father snow went around asking all the beautiful flowers and grasses if he might have some of their color. But they were stingy and said no. So now the beautiful white snow lays on all but one type of flower. An interesting story, that I would be curious if its a retelling or just from this author's mind.
