3 and a half stars.
These books are great juvenile fiction, but a lot will depend on how they end. I think I only have one book left. I do really like how the sequels move among the relevant children alternating whose story you are following with each book.

Another exciting, surprisingly deep, installment in the Shadow Children series. Once again, the author introduces a new protagonist - Matthias. I loved how Matthias's vulnerabilities were displayed alongside his strengths. In this particular book, the author focused more on the gray area that exists between the black and white of good vs. bad, giving the novel a bit more philosophical complexity than some of the others in the series.

This was one of my favorite in the series so far, if not my favorite. One more to go!
