I only watched the first anime episode and decided to check out the manga instead.

The characters are alright but no one really grew on me much during these few chapters for this volume.

The plot is quite interesting as we find Ichigo thrown into a new environment, one he didn't realise existed, even though he was already able to see ghosts/spirits. It was pretty cool to see Ichigo having a giant blade, signalling the amount of power that he can harness.

Looking forward to reading the next volume!

I think I read twenty or so of these way back when...I'm sure I could never catch up now!

This is pure early 2000s manga, and I'm mostly here because it was recommended to me (in the "how have you never read this" kind of way), and colour me intrigued. I definitely skipped the shounen craze of the time, at least more of the popular stuff, so I'm interested to see how it holds up compared to modern shounen. This was neat, nothing necessarily standout yet, but first volumes are always deceptive.

The writing is bad, though the world seems interesting. I will continue.

Why was I hesitant to pick this up????

I know it's loved, but so is Deathnote, and I didn't have the best time with those mangas and since I've only really enjoyed one manga with my whole heart and that's Alice in Borderland, I thought maybe that was due to the love I have for the show adaptation. I found mangas to be difficult to get into in the past, they usually take a few volumes to get going... but with Bleach, we were thrown straight into the story, it had both a perfect start and ending point making me want to pick up the next volume immediately and it actually made laugh, which again, is very odd for me, I don't get on with humour in books!! But the humour was so subtle, and to my taste, I loved it. I also felt for the characters early on... yeah, let's say I'm invested. Hopefully, volume 2 doesn't let me down and make me look like a fool.
