Truly despised this book. I’m sure people talk about what the protagonist has been through and the retreat from a plethora of abusive relationships. However, as someone who has experienced abusive relationships, I simply cannot condone the unceasing “asshole” approach to life. I’m sure I was meant to get something transcendent from this book but I just could not get past the main character with no redeeming qualities and the last twenty minutes of — wow I’ve finally decided to be in the world again, give me more praise — utter bullshit? This one just was not for me.

First thought? Wtf. But also saw that coming once Reva mentioned her place of work. Not yet capable of forming a well-formulated opinion.

My overall feelings about this book: ugh.
It’s perfect if you want to ferment in a mental gutter for awhile. Nothing happens in the book -- it’s just the protagonist’s awful thoughts for 300 pages. I rounded up to two stars because it was well written garbage. There was the occasional insight that resonated with some dark, cynical part of myself, the odd funny scene with the insane psychiatrist.
Still, it was like having your brain swim through sewage. It felt like Into the Wild, privileged white girl edition. Just, ugh.
