This anthology tells the sacred stories of the First Nations of North and South America, stories that have been passed down within and by Indigenous cultures of the Americas for thousands of years. This collection of mythology/creation stories will help to fill a void in middle grade and YA collections. Will recommend it to 7th grade, could be good for read aloud. I am not drawn to mythology (so not the target audience for this book) and although this is a necessary collection, none of the stories captivated me. It's great reference material though and I do think it will appeal to a middle grade audience.

Beautiful book with short (2-3 page) stories from Indigenous Americans, each preceded by a short poem and accompanied by gorgeous illustrations. I found myself finding all the stories from one tradition and reading those together, then another tradition. I went more geographically. I'm not sure how they decided the order in which to put the stories.

Backmatter includes a pronunciation guide, short information about each culture, and a glossary. There is a also a map locating each culture.

The stories are engaging but relatively short; I felt that I would have gotten more out of each of them if they'd been introduced with a little bit of context about language, culture, and history, especially since this is a multi-cultural collection.

An intriguing trip through the sacred stories of the indigenous peoples of the American continents, from Argentina to Alaska.

It's fine, it was fine. There were just too many stories and they started to jumble together for me.

I enjoyed the stories, but would have preferred them being grouped by culture/tradition, and in chronological order within each culture when there is a known order.
