I thought it was a cool world. Easy on the story. Quick to read and fun.

Karen Russell comes up with interesting story ideas, but her writing style irritates me. Every sentence is so overwritten, every scene so convoluted, that it is hard to maintain any interest in the plot. As for the plot, it really doesn't go anywhere. The ending felt like she just got tired of coming up with ideas. The characters were flat and rarely acted in authentic ways. Finally, for an e-book only publication, the formatting on this book was terrible. I had to switch font-sizes two or three times at every chapter break to see all the text.

Great concept, without the delivery I craved. The author can spin a beautiful background and write whole paragraphs worth highlighting, but I desire a more scientific, more realistic explanation of a therapy that could never work.

I plowed through, but only because it was short and because I had high-hopes (unmet) for the resolution.

I know it's a novella but I wish it was a fully fleshed novel! The world Russell crafted is so intriguing and terrifying, a truly nightmarish dystopia.
