Decided to try out some work from the romance genre. This was good! Strangely the sex scenes made me blush, which doesn't make a lot of sense, tbh, but i was a fun read overall.

Cute

This is the first story I am reading by this author. It was a very enjoyable novela. It is a complete story with no cliffhangers. Can't wait to read more.

For a short story (MAYBE novella), Cole does a wonderful job setting the scene for this medieval romance featuring a black woman and a white Scottish Highlander.

Agnes Moor was taken in by King James IV's court as an 'exotic' and while she finds the court friendly than most, she lives with daily reminders she is other. During a tournament, the King decides a kiss from Agnes shall be the prize for the victor and one knight seems determined to win the favor.

When the "Wild Knight" emerges victorious, it turns out he is actually the Laird of a Scottish clan and someone with whom Agnes shared a charged encounter a while back. Someone who is here for far more than a kiss.

Super fun, super sexy story. I only wish there was more to it.

Anges and Gareth
1 spicy scene for a novella.

I didn't quite get how into each other they were - I don't like flashbacks especially not in a novella, I think the tournament could have been a better one and done setting tbh.

But the history of this book was very informative and interesting. I just read heaps about Black women in European courts!

Like nearly everyone else, I wish this story had been a bit longer. Both Agnes and Gareth are great characters, and I really enjoyed reading the interaction between them. The story itself is also pretty well told, considering its short length, but connection between the MCs would have been a great slow-burn type of read. It also would have been great to see them interacting more within the society (considering how both of them were viewed as "outsiders" to proper Scottish society). How did Agnes come to be with King James? What of the effort to unite the clans? I just want more lol.

Super cute and really short. Wish it were longer! I actually think it couldve been longer or expanded. But oh well. Author did a really good job with world building and with the characters, which made me want more.
