I’m not sure what to give this so I’m giving it a rating right in the middle. Maybe audiobook wasn’t the way to go and it would have hit more had I read it physically. It was a story of a girl who had lost her brother and her and her family figuring out how to move past that.

i really empathised with the main character, and felt so happy for her when she began to deal with her grief at the end. i wasn’t a massive fan of the romance, and honestly don’t believe that it was very necessary to the story, but i loved seeing lex start to mend her relationship with her parents and come to terms with what happened. i wish we saw a bit more of how things ended with her friends at the end

“Time passes. That's the rule. No matter what happens, no matter how much it might feel like everything in your life has been frozen around one particular moment, time marches on.”

The Last Time We Say Goodbye is about Lex whose brother died by suicide and left her with a heart full of grief. Obviously, this was a very emotional read as it focuses on Lex's grief and the impact her brother's suicide has had on her family. Her mother is devastated and her father isn't really in the picture anymore, as he's got a new family now. Lex has troubles dealing with her grief and the complicated feelings towards her brother, so she cuts herself off completely. It's difficult for her to keep in contact with her friends and her (ex) boyfriend, as they don't seem to know how to treat her. This book wasn't perfect, but it felt raw and honest!

Finally read this book after a very loooong time in my TBR! You need to look up for TW thoo

3 stars but doesn't mean it's bad. It's just–this book is talking about losing someone important and how you try to survive the grief after that. It's a really heavy book for me. Books can impact my real life feeling so I feel hurt and sad when reading Lex's story.

This book attacked my emotions although the writing was simple, not poetic or anything but the way it talks from Lex's pov is good (bc it hit me to the core).

I almost cried, I could really cry but mostly I read it in a public area soooo— however, I seemly to intrigued by the romance aspect from this story. Such a classic high school romance but it was nice to see Lex not just feeling grieving. The friendship topic is good too.

Also, the way it builds to how we discovered how Ty went away was the one keeps me interested (a touch of mystery but yeah)

oh mY GODDDDDd. this was so sad. i wanted to cry most of the time bc WHAT. and the author's note j made it sadder :( but it was mostly good?? there were times when the actual writing was mid and also it was a tad sanist and ableist but it's pretty good and also rlly thought provoking. there were ways i expected it to go but it didnt go that way which was kind of annoying but i wont hold a grudge bc the way it did go completeLY THREW ME OFF. like 70% of the book is talking about this text which alexis holds guilt for and then i found out what he said and i was like Oh. LIKE IT WAS SO SAD I FELT SO BAD even if she's fictional bc the author isn't and :( IT WAS SO UIHAFOIUSH like if you're not ready to cry don't read this bc u will cry. but it's a good book. it didnt rlly portray therapy correctly (for me personally.) there seemed to be a lot of therapy stereotypes, that the only ppl who go to therapy are 'crazy' as alexis says, but that's not the case and sanist tbh. asides from that it was rlly good, it got the grief process spot on.

Audiobook - 5 hours 18 minutes - I thought this was a good representation of teen suicide - it wasn't oversensationalised, and I liked how it wasn't caused by a simplistic list of reasons, like in other media I could name. The perspective of an older sister was interesting to read from, the way she blamed it on herself even though she didn't know the reason why her brother took his own life. However, there were some parts that fell a little flat to me - I wasn't too keen on the subplot with Sadie talking about ghosts. I was scared that the book would lean into this too much, bordering on paranormal, which impacted my enjoyment of the book somewhat, but I am glad that that wasn't the way it was written.
