conclusion of the Dark Tournament. i inly ever watched this far into the anime so everything from here on will be new to me~ the puzzle house was cute but it stands to reason that the team has yet to be challenged with strategy and cunning.

A fitting end to the Dark Tournament arc and a smooth transition to the Black Chapter arc.

Learning about Toguro's past was sad and is the final piece to the puzzle in understanding his motivations and ideology. I'm glad the the series doesn't try to push readers to forgive him or try to excuse his actions, rather paint him as an emotionally broken man obsessed with power. His final exchange with Genkai was bittersweet, but appropriate for their relationship.

As for the intro to the Black Chapter arc, I will say that the powers present in this arc are some of the most interesting in the series. As much as I'm nostalgic for this series, it's very clear that the powers most demons and humans have are unoriginal and mostly there to look cool. Not that this is necessarily bad, but the fights are pretty much just power struggles with little to no creativity. I don't remember all of the territory powers, so it'll be fun to read this arc and rediscover them.

That's about it. Looking forward to this arc.

It's weird being back in the real world after the Tournament arc, but it wrapped up nicely. As always with Togashi, we get unexpected conclusions- the fakeout with Kuwabara and Genkai deaths, Toguro's motivations, Sakyo's suicide. We quickly resume our lives in the human world, and we learn that there's a "disturbance in the force"- humans are getting magical abilities. Genkai's back and tests the gang after Yusuke gets kidnapped. Turns out that after Sakyo died, someone swiftly took his place and has created a portal to allow demons to the human world. We see Toguro the elder regrowing next to the new villain. Seems like we have a much bigger problem on our hands now.

ps. It's nice seeing Koenma in baby form again.

What a fight, and what a way to end the Dark Tournament arc. For the longest time, I had always thought that was the end of the series.
