Not my favorite of Lauren Beukes' novels, but this was still certainly a good read! This is the third book of hers that I have read involving travel between realities, this time involving a woman's search for her mother after her death. I've seen some reviews labeling this as a "coming of age" novel, and I didn't really think that was appropriate for this novel. It had some flashbacks (told in diary form), but did not involve a significant amount of time in the growth and development of the main character, or at least enough for me to consider this a coming-of-age novel.

Anyhoo, I liked the sinister aspect introduced by the main villain(s) and the concept was kind of neat. I do think the execution dipped in places and the story got a bit hard to follow, but overall it stayed pretty on track.

There was very little character development so it took a very long time to understand what was even happening. The main character was a bit frustrating to root for.  I liked the premise but this was a slog to get through for me.

So this is weird and confusing. Multiverse using worm thread to hop into alternate versions of yourself.
Very little character work and the writing style wasn’t for me. Wasn’t worth pushing through til the end.
