Read this one without having read #1. I will absolutely be following up for the full series. I have yet to read a book by Mr. Peck that didn't draw me in nearly immediately. Rich, nuanced characters and compelling storylines.

This book left a favorable impression when I read it for the first time in elementary school. Now, having re-read it 20 years later, I still found it enjoyable. I'm sure I didn't get a lot of its humor back then, and remembered it being a lot darker than it actually is. I also remember laboring through to the end as a child, being supremely proud of myself for finishing a book containing some irregular turns of phrase. This time around it was a quick, light read, though still entertaining.

Another home run from Richard Peck. Falls just shy of my elusive 5-star rating because I wasn't emotionally-affected, but I enjoyed the whole thing from start to finish, and Blossom (though a bit unbelievable in that she's incredibly well-spoken given her upbringing) is a star, love her to bits. It's perfectly written: perfect pace, right amount of scene-setting, well-differentiated characters, some humour, some suspense--it's exactly the kind of Very Good children's book I turn to for pleasure reading (rather than an easy but badly-written adult guilty pleasure).

The ghosts are surprisingly incidental, really--this is more about Blossom's charming outlook on life and her attempts to rope in reluctant beau Alexander (though he doesn't seem to realise that's the path she's setting him on) as her partner-in-crime, so if you're pro-fun but anti-ghost, you may well still enjoy this terrific book.

(Note: 5 stars = amazing, wonderful, 4 = very good book, 3 = decent read, 2 = disappointing, 1 = awful, just awful. I'm fairly good at picking for myself so end up with a lot of 4s). I feel a lot of readers automatically render any book they enjoy 5, I'm a bit more ruthless.

Blossom Culp + Titanic. Good YA ghost story.

Apparently, I read this one when I was a child. I probably loved it at the time. It was still pretty good, but it's funny how I feel much more strongly drawn to Grandma Dowdel than to Peck's teenage narrators.

I am normally not interested in YA Fiction, but my friend gave me this book so I decided to read it. It's about a poor young girl who ends up being able to see ghosts. She sees different events, and slowly gains the respect of the whole town. The author did a great job of tying all of the events together, and there is some great humor throughout the book. I am going to recommend this book to my ESL students.

I enjoyed this book even more then the first! It was told from Blossom Culp’s point of view and I just fell in love with this spunky, funny & lovable girl. She doesn’t follow the norm and her ghostly adventures are fun for any young reader!

So, Ian was cleaning the attic and found a book of artwork which contained a cover painting for this book (not the one shown here). It felt familiar, so I thought maybe I'd read this before. Checked it out from the library (got a different cover than the two I'd seen) and discovered that if I'd read it before, I don't remember it. The story is simplistic, the characters annoying and the plot pathetic.

I am impressed with this series. The first book, [b:The Ghost Belonged to Me|548159|The Ghost Belonged to Me|Richard Peck|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1175708872s/548159.jpg|2018327], introduces a turn of the century small town with colorful characters. One interesting character is Blossom Culp. Blossom is a school girl that has the 'Second Sight'. Her neighbor Alexander gets to hear all about her stories and visions and is often drawn into ghostly experiences. The series is a wonderful mix of history and the supernatural. Thoroughly enjoyable.
