Backwoods started slow. It was very long (which isn't a problem in the least). It gave plenty of background on the main character. Andrew Braddock. It also gave plenty of space to explain why the government developed a plan for, and tried to turn soldiers into human killing machines. There was buildup. Andrew went from unsuspecting and slightly put out to scared and finally heroic. The creatures described were scary and I was on the edge of my seat towards the end. My only problem was the ending. As long as the book was I wanted more. I know people who needs whatever they are reading to be tied up into a neat bow at the end. I don't. It just had a very open ending. Did Dani, Andrew, and Alice get stalked and found Oh well.
