Strange book. I won't get the hours back that I spent reading this. The pacing was weird, and the main character frustrated me. Seems like the author is bad at writing horror, and multidimensional characters.

What I liked:
I liked the way Gretchen's parents reacted to the hearing about their daughter possibly being raped. Its a way of showing how not all parents react the same.

Thought out the story we see how much Abby cares about Gretchen's well being I also like how realistic her reactions to what was going on were. You sadly doing find a lot of realistic reactions in Horror novels.

What I didn't like:

What immediately took away 2 stars for me was
how casually the group of friends talked about one of the brothers drugging  and raping girls in the back of his car.

Overall:
Overall this book made for an okay audiobook to listen to while in the car or while doing chores but I could not bring myself to actually sit down and read the actual book.
Even though I did not always enjoy the book and reading it felt like a chore at time I will admit that it did have a very satisfying and realistic ending.

I found the book good overall. It felt a little dragging in the secon third but really picked up and became wild in the last third.

If you catch me reading another Grady Hendrix, book, please assume that *I've* been possessed.

Like it's so easy to compare him to Riley Sager in the men using androgynous names to write exclusively female main characters club but at least Sager doesn't include discussion of sexual violence against literal children in all* of his books?

* Don't come at me if it's not ALL of them, this is book three of three at this point and I'm over it.

This was a wild ride. It definitely felt authentic to the 80s, which was such an interesting (and not as great) time. I find it hard to rate the book any higher because of the subject matter but I did like the ending about friendship.
