This is the second suspense/thriller series I've finished this month and the second one that has bittersweetly come to an end due to the passing of an author. I was unaware of Mary Higgins Clark's death until today when scrolling through this Goodreads page. She happened to have become one of my favorite authors last year and I will continue to read whatever books of hers that are out there from past years. May she rest in peace.

Although I'm unsure if this series was meant to end with this novel, I'll say it's a fitting end from where we first started with Laurie, Timmy, and Leo several books ago. With the introduction of Alex into their lives, Laurie opening herself up to the chance of love again, being a good working mother to the "happily ever after" of a new life with her family.

Solid 4 ☆ book
That said, though clark is a well known author, who had recently passed, this is my very first experience with her work.
I went into this book expecting nothing, and i wasnt really disappointed. Its wasn't a stellar, but it was ok.
Now, this book is about a child's kidnapping during a wedding holiday, and it gets mixed up with old cases.
The protagonist is a tv host for a show where they solve old cases that the officials were not able to earlier.
To jump right in:
The book was a slow build
Characters were shallow, and some of them were a tad bit annoying/stupid. Sometimes felt like characters from an exaggerated chick flick.
The plot was interesting yet very predictable. Im not sure if that was intentional, but i found myself able to guess the characters' next move, line of thinking, suspects or potential suspects, and even guess the reason why what the authors were trying to "hint for" or "build", would not have worked because of an earlier given clue.
All that said,
The book was still very enjoyable, the pace was ok in some cases, it was a light read, you can guess what happens, but you can still continue reading to verify and finalize that experience with the book.
The ending was fluffy.. not saying much to avoid spoilers.

I still despise Laurie. But this book had some rational people and that was nice. And it may be the last in the series, which is sad. I will have to find something else to hate-read.

Also- again, why does she still have a job? No TV episode of her show was produced yet again. What even IS this show?

As a huge fan of both authors, and this series as a whole - I am so glad to see the way it ends, with Laurie as well as with a great “whodunit” - as MHC’s final work, this was a good one indeed.

Television presenter Laurie and her fiancé Alex are getting married and the whole family is with them ready to celebrate their union in just a few days. Happiness turns to tragedy when Alex’s nephew goes missing.

Johnny vanishes from the back and the alarm bells are go though the roof when the realise he’s been kidnapped. Family secrets come to light and the twists and turns keep you in suspense. Laurie uses her contacts to obtain information but is it enough to find Johnny before it’s too late?

This book had me hanging on the edge of my seat at the end, I really enjoyed joining the dots and putting all the pieces together. I didn’t realise it was book 7 in the under suspicion series, you definitely don’t need to read the previous 6 to read this one.
