This book was extremely well written, meticulously researched, and vividly detailed, but, unfortunately, did not live up to the hype for me. Which is why it took me almost 2 months to finish.

Someone Knows My Name was absolutely captivating. Once I started the book, I rarely put it down. When I wasn't reading the book, I was thinking about it. Once, I even dreamed about the book. The characters, the settings and the overall story kept me in its grasp till the final page.

However, I only give the book 4 stars, instead of 5, because there was one element lacking for me: suspense. Due to the style in which the book was written, you pretty much know how the book ends. There was one twist the author throws in, but I found it a little unbelievable and thus wasn't moved by the effort.

Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book. It was very well-written. The imagery, the emotions, and the historical nature of the story makes this a must-read.

I am grateful for all I learned from this book.  It reads like a biography that can be a bit distant from the reader and therefore hard to connect with characters despite a strong desire to do so.
