Definitely needed some fine tuning but a Gujarati Indian teenager who loves to rap and lives in Hawaii trying to cope with her parents failing marriage, suffering with intense trauma on her own, and trying to survivor as an 'outsider', it is indeed a tale that is so few and far in between that I couldn't help but read it. Rani is not an easy protagonist to love but she is realistic and shows all the uncertainty that comes with being a teenager, suffering , being the only Indian girl on the island and watching your family fall apart.
