As I have mentioned in my reviews to the first two novels in this trilogy, the Veiled Seduction trilogy is an excellent one and Heather Snow is a writer who needs to write more.

These novels are a welcome change of pace, a breath of fresh air. They are well researched in science, politics, and history. Sweet Madness was possibly my favourite of the three.

Penelope's research of mental illnesses really struck a chord within me. It was touching to see a character who had had someone close to her lose his life to this and for it to change her in such a way. Ultimately Penelope had always been and would always be a people person. Seeing her apply her social skills with her knowledge of psychology was excellent and made it more believable. Her desire to understand these illnesses was especially touching coming from a woman who lived in a time when these illnesses were not understood. Gabriel's own PTSD was especially heartbreaking to me because of the time period. It was so hard for me to see a character struggle with something that wouldn't be understood for so long and knowing in the end that a large part of what caused his problems
Spoilerwasn't even his PTSD but was caused by another person
was especially troubling.

The character as a couple worked really well together and it was very welcome for me to see their relationship build and their old wounds heal.

This is a novel I would recommend to anyone looking for an enjoyable historical romance novel that had been well researched and felt real.

I liked how the setting of proto-therapy provided the characters a accelerated intimacy. outside of a historical I'd probably find the caretaker/patient relationship to be super creepy, but here I don't mind.
