I remember me and two of my friends at sleepovers would each grab a Scary Stories book and take turns reading the stories out loud. Some of the stories were really good but others...not so much.

I am kind of impressed at how much I disliked this one compared to its predecessor. I had distinctly remembered feeling like the trilogy got better the further you read, but this was pretty disappointing on reread. There were some gems to be sure, but out of the entire collection I genuinely liked two. I think my biggest issue is that a lot of the stories seemed unfinished or didn't have enough story to make them interesting. It felt like Schwartz was so invested in getting to the sucker punch conclusion to each story that he just skipped over literally everything else, like detailed settings or quasi-engaging characters. And yes, I understand these are retellings of stories, but since they're retellings anyway, couldn't he have put in anymore effort to make them engaging? I dunno, this was just disappointing. I'm sure kids will love it and find it scary, but not me.
