UUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Like I said in my previous review, for book 5, this book and the previous one.. just weren't for me. Pretty sure I just repeated everything in my first sentence but that's because these two left me so shook. Not in a good way. It's getting tiring to see the same thing constantly happening.

Temperance is ALWAYS in danger.
She misses her kid.
She misses Ryan.
She solves the murder..but it takes FOREVER.

The one thing that kept this a page turner was trying to figure out who killed the baby. So yea, the only thing that got me into this book was when she found those bones. Other than that, I just didn't care. Yeah, the other murder was an interesting add but it just seems to be repetitive. I don't want to say that I'm getting bored.. but I am and it's sad because I'm listening to the freaking audios! Those kind of books shouldn't make you bored.. but it's like I'd rather sit in traffic than keep hearing Temperance being in danger.

I have no idea when I'm going to dive into the next book but I feel like I need a mini break from this series. Hopefully the next book will bring me out of this weird funk. I need something to get me interested into this book and characters again.

Another suspenseful Temperance Brennan novel that kept me guessing and loving it. Reichs' novels are a breath of fresh excitement with education swirled in seamlessly. I love it.

About the Book: Burned remains of a newborn. Bags of bear bones. Bodies after a smuggler plane crash. Temperance Brennan had her plate full even without the psycho into whose crosshairs she stumbled in. The only question is, which bones got them on her tail.

My Opinion: Unpleasant fat shaming. You’d think an adult author writing an adult woman would know better than to mock someone’s appearance when their character is out of line, but this was outright nasty. On top of that, through all the books in the series there seems to be these same tropes of: whoever Brennan is in mortal worry about – spends the whole time of the imminent danger to them, real or imagined, outside of any phone service; Brennan is in mortal danger due to the case she’s on, and gets out of it with a very simple maneuver in a page or two near the end.

I am a huge fan of the show Bones. That being said I approach the Brennan novels much as I do any tv or movie adaptation, expecting a lot of differences. I am enjoying these novels so far because I am not making parallels to the tv show. The only similarities between them are the name and occupation of the main character. I enjoy the way this novel morphed from one crime into another which seems to be a recurring theme. I will admit that the forensic shop talk sometimes stymies me and I feel tired just reading about how busy Tempe is constantly. But I haven't disliked a Reichs novel yet and this one is no exception.

This is book number six in the Tempe Brennan (aka Bones) series. I started it back in December, a coworker saw me reading one of these books and then brought in a ton of them that she owned to loan to me. This is the second of those i've gotten to. And yet, it's September, almost a year later. why did it take me so long to get through this book? well, the best part about this series is the autopsies, the medical facts. But that's about all. The characters are dull. Tempe, the main character who is a forensic anthropologist who works to solve mysteries by identifying bones and bodies, is dull. Part of it is my fault. She's a middle aged woman with a grown daughter and a crush on this equally boring guy. i just don't identify with her at all. but it's also written dully. it doesn't grab your attention at all. you have to work at these books. so i kind of just imagine her as totally different and just pay attention to the medical things, oh and her cute dog and cat. Read this series if you're interested in autopsies, bones and medical things (i am!) or maybe have a lot of patience. ill probably read more of this series, since i still have the books my coworker lent me, but once i've read all the ones she gave me, i don't think i'd try to read more on my own. 2 stars = 'it was ok'
