Irritating author. She writes her books like she's writing for tv. They are two different genres.

Audio book performed by Barbara Rosenblat

Reichs writes a good suspense/thriller. Book six in the series starring forensic anthropologist Dr Temperance (Tempe) Brennan begins with the remains of an infant found in a wood stove. Before we know it Tempe’s planned beach getaway with Montreal detective Andrew Ryan is on hold while she investigates a plane crash and a bag of remains found in a park.

I enjoy these books for the forensic anthropology and quick pace. I’m irritated by Tempe’s continued “helplessness” – the woman never gets herself out of a jam, but is always rescued by the convenient arrival of a strong man. This particular book also got a little preachy on environmental / endangered species issues. I read mysteries / thrillers for entertainment; I don’t need to be preached to when reading them.

Barbara Rosenblat does a decent job of performing the audio book. She has a good pace and enough voice over talent to differentiate the many characters.

I listened to this in my car and realized quickly that it was abridged. This is seldom a good thing for a mystery--esp. when I'm listening! My new car has a radio that works, so I may not be trying to listen to books as much anymore. :)

This sixth book in the series felt a bit like hard work to me. There were many seemingly unconnected discoveries of bones in North Carolina, where Dr Temperance (Tempe) Brennan works as a forensic anthropologist. She spends half her time in North Carolina and the other half in Quebec, where she met Detective Andrew Ryan. Ryan and Temple are in the beginning stages of a relationship outside of work. Police find a baby's skeleton that has been burned in a wood stove, Tempe's dog finds bones which could be human or bear when they are at a bbq at a country property, and a plane crash incinerates its victims down to the bone. Tempe and Ryan were supposed to be going on holidays together but cancel their plans to help with the investigation. The book includes a lot of scientific analysis which I found too dry. The dialogue also felt very stilted to me. Overall a good story, but the plot moved slightly too slowly.

This book is so dry. It's all explanation and intricacies of being a forensic anthropologist with none of the excitement. Like hello?? The premise was a child's bones (acc. to the blurb) like how could this be so dull??
Not to mention it's being carried by the most two-dimensional characters ever which means they're carrying the story to its downfall. I kept reading in hopes it would get better but there's literally no mystery? Nothing to pursue as a reader, like the easiest dnf I've had in a while.
