I think teens would absolutely love this book.

However, I’m a grown up now.

I liked it, don’t get me wrong, I just found myself thinking, “Yeah right” over and over. How can so much disaster surround one group of people? And really, you have no experience in rescue situations and you’re going to fix that kind of an accident on your own?! I’ve seen too many news stories that feature teens who tried to be heroes and ended up being victims, too. The story just didn’t sit right with me. It was a great way to end the series and it tied up all of the loose ends. It was well-written, it just wasn’t for me.

The last book to Lisa McMann’s Vision series finds our young heroes struggling to find the next heir to the curse. The curse that started with Jules, that she consequently passed on to Sawyer when she saved him from imminent death. While they saved a number of students from a school shooting, Jules knew that somehow, someone must have inherited the vision curse.

When they eventually find the unfortunate carrier, their efforts to stave off a fatal disaster were met with strong opposition. So much so, that they were not able to prevent the tragedy from happening. Jules was not impressed, and a little pissed at the person who didn’t try harder to save those who died. Redemption comes in the form of another tragedy, however. Jules and the gang are determined to save lives. This time, they’re even more prepared; well-researched, and very hopeful that they could at least minimize the number of deaths. But would it be enough?

At home, the Demarco family suffered a tragedy and a blessing at the same time. Without divulging too much information, they will be given a chance at new beginnings. Jules hopes that their dad doesn’t fall back to the same abyss of depression that incites a need to hoard things. Meanwhile, her relationship with Sawyer remains strong; Trey has found a boyfriend in Ben, and Rowan’s on-line relationship with Charlie seems to be unstoppable. All in all, personal and family life is infinitely getting better. Another reason why I didn’t mind this series coming to an end. I knew that these kids are going to be just fine.

Lisa is very adept in writing an eventful book packaged slightly thinner than your average novel, which, admittedly is what I like about her YA series. They tend to be fast reads; and yet the reader would be not left unsatisfied that something was missed, nor would they suffer from a case of the whiplash. In this book, not only did they have to deal with one disaster, but three.
SpoilerThe Demarco’s house and restaurant burned to the ground
; plus the other two disasters which I would leave for you to read. This time around, Jules and Sawyer has the help of Trey, Ben and Rowan; which makes for an almost smoother sleuthing for our heroes. All in all, everything that I’ve come to enjoy about these novels were amped up in the third book. It’s funnier, sweeter, and more suspenseful.

Not the best ending, but an almost completely satisfying ending. The only thing that was not satisfying for me was the lack of explanation of how the visions ACTUALLY started.
Plus the fact that a few of the "twist" were super predictable and the ending of this book seemed rushed were all reasons why I can't give this book 5 stars.
The rest of the book was great.

“We’re all in, baby,” he says. “Sink or swim.”

ah-maz-ing! A series that doesn't drag or get too confusing or add too many characters or any of the common pit-falls of a trilogy.

This series is stronger, funnier, and more heart-pounding tension and action in every story and every book. Because you are more invested and more in love with every character and every event.

I loved everyone, just as much as before! Amazing. I want to read the whole series again!

Gasp picks up right after Bang, everyone is facing the aftermath of the shooting. Jules and Sawyer, while being teenagers in love, are also struggling to see who the vision has been passed on to. This is of course easier said than done. There are numerous options and how do you really ask someone if they have visions without sounding like you haven’t completely lost it?

It’s next to impossible.

That being said, the group does figure out a way to find the next person who has the visions, but in the meantime things continue to happen in Jules life that make it harder to deal with. Nothing has been easy for Jules and this pattern continues on throughout Gasp and it’s painful. My heart went out to Jules numerous times in this book. I wanted to hug her and tell her things would be okay, even though I had no idea. I never do with McMann’s writing. There is always the chance that something could happens that I don’t want to face because that’s real life. She continues to make me face feelings I don’t want to face.

There’s pain. There’s heartbreak. But there is also love and hope. Usually feelings I don’t want to face, but McMann does it in such a way, you devour the book because you want to make sure everything ends up okay. While I cannot tell you if everything ends up okay (because that’s really in the mind of the reader) I did enjoy this book and the end to this series. Although I want more of Jules and Sawyer, and their happiness, I understand why McMann ended the book where she did. Who wants to read about two teens in love and being happy? Actually I do. But I understand I’m a rare creature in the YA reading world.

McMann is also a master at having things that occur in the first book, come back in the third, but it’s so beautifully done, not once do you feel like you are being strung along. It seems that it was always supposed to be this way and it works and makes you want more.

Gasp is the third and final book in the Visions trilogy and it was, in my opinion, the perfect ending. While it’s not the ideal perfect ending where it is tied with a bow, it is perfect for the characters and it is a classic McMann ending: it’s hopeful.
