I just finished rereading this book. The first time (based on my 3 star rating), I was not terribly impressed. This time I was, so I've upped my rating to five stars. I will miss these characters ...

My husband took a chance and bought this for me for Easter last year. He actually picked a pretty good book! The youngest daughter is kidnapped from a family and still hasn't been found something like twenty years later. This book is about how she may be the one who is actually lost, but every other family member also loses his or her way after her kidnapping. The book is about the ways they either try to cope with, or refuse to accept, the kidnapping. I recommend it.

A quick and simple read. Engaging enough to read to the end to see how things unfold. That said, the writing is not overly complex. The characters are a bit two-dimensional, and the plot moves swiftly without much nuance.

I liked the interplay of the two voices, how the author had us clueless at first, and let us get our own "ah ha!" moment. Tough subject handled well. I love the idea of the victim being handed a story, and what choice does a young victim have but to take that story? Thought-provoking, without being too unsettling.

I just listened to this as an audio book and I loved it! I actually procrastinated on my spreadsheet work so that I could finish it. I really like the way she writes, it's very simple and profound, I didn't find myself wishing the story could move along any faster or for more detail.

I picked up this book becuase it seemed like an interesting premise that would be a good summer read, but found the plot and its characters quite boring. I hung in there hoping for an exciting end to make all the hanging in there worth while, but no.

This was another good, quick read. I read it quickly because I wanted to see how the three stories in the book were connected. The only thing is that I feel the ending was too abrupt. I would have liked at least an epilogue or something.

I felt like I had read this book before. I hadn't, but it sure felt like it. The story seemed reminiscent of many others. The cover looks the same as almost every other contemporary "woman's" novel out there. It probably was a Target pick for undiscovered reads or something like that. I don't know--it just seemed like a poor imitation and compilation of lots of other books out there. The premise was interesting enough: a girl disappears at five and we see what happens to her family (two sisters and parents) after the fact. They're all grown up and the mother sees a picture in a magazine that looks like the missing girl all grown up and one of the sisters takes off to try and find her. I really didn't get involved in the book and I really only kept reading to find out the ending. An ending that was disappointing and left me wanting more. So then I was angry that I read the whole book for nothing.

This was a super fast read about a family that captivated me. The family is torn apart when their youngest daughter goes missing (although it was fairly dysfunctional even before the missing child.) It focuses on the oldest daughter who has drifted through life without aim since the tragedy. I liked how the book was written and that pieces fell together for everyone at the end. However, I do wish more details were included in the end because I am longing for more!!!
