I've learned to not get my hopes up when dark horse releases Dragon Age books with stunning covers. Good thing too, because with mediocre expectations, I was only slightly disappointed. The story is weak, aimless, and hard to follow. The characters aren't even as much as introduced to us properly, causing the emotional impact of the conclusion to feel shallow and like they were trying too hard. The art is alright. It's well-drawn for the most part, but sometimes there is a lot going on so it becomes a bit difficult to follow. I personally find it all a bit too bright and colourful to be the grim and dark world of Thedas, and sometimes it felt more like a surprisingly gorey version of a childrens picture book by disney.

All in all, it's not awful, but it's not good either.

But is it worth the full hardcover money of 17.99$ US?

No. Not even close. Even WITH a partially shirtless Fenris on the cover.

Get it on sale. Or lend it from someone.
