I appreciate these soldiers being able to tell their stories.  I loved the variety: gender, sexuality, branches, ranks, service locations.  It definitely shows the different facets of serving your country, motivations, and mentality upon returning from war.  It was quick, informational, introspective, and not too detailed to put anyone off.  At least me.  I enjoyed it.

This was sadder than I thought it might be. My bf is a vet who was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan during the war between 2007-2011.

A book about the experiences of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans. Unsurprisingly sad. It was nice to see a variety of experiences.

I appreciated how varied the stories in this graphic novelization were; they weren't all from the perspective of the standard Iraq/Afghanistan vet and did a great job of highlighting issues servicemen and women still face. Ineffective leadership, hazing (which is illegal), bad actors and the gamut of human emotions resulting from complex forms of PTSD. It was also nice to see what some of them were up to in present day (after they left service). A lot of service members struggle to make the transition to civilian life, regardless of whether they saw combat or not. It's nice to see these men and women portrayed as the complex human beings they are and not simply as boot-licking baby killers or men "above men" who are exalted and can do no wrong.
