Wow. I was not expecting this. It starts off a bit slow, but when it picks up, boy does it pick up.

Astonishing characters speak in griping poetic prose. I long to see the text brought to life on stage.

This is a brilliantly executed play. No pun intended. The characters are fully developed and complicated. I couldn’t stop reading. I’d highly recommend.

Well, better than reading it. Acting is great. But the play is so not a favorite of mine. It feels like Elizabeth is being punished because she isn't beautiful enough.

i've kept ahold of this play for years thinking one day i was going to sit down and read it, and this august i did. and what did i find? a beautiful play about duplicity, femininity and terror set in the elizabethan age. icke's translation of the play sets up these two powerhouse women (elizabeth i and mary stuart) in a more modern setting knowing this play was performed with both lead actresses doing a coin flip to know who played who makes the text even more awe-inspiring. working in themes of nationalism, religion and persecution in the western world - it truly is a play for today.
