Honestly a bit disappointed. I've read the whole series and this is definitely one of the weaker entries. The plot is quite obvious and easy to figure out, and makes too many illogical jumps. There's also a lot of unnecessary filler - the bear and the mother in law were really unnecessary story lines. Hopefully Box hadn't run out of ideas for Joe Pickett, but this wasn't a great one.

It seems that Joe has been on the road a lot, or out of sorts. I appreciated things being a bit more homey.

C.J. Box just doesn’t miss! This was a thriller from start to finish. Someone is coming after Judge Hewitt, but you’ll never guess who it is. In addition, the cartel is out to avenge Abriella Guzman and Nate channels his outlaw background to save his wife and daughter.

A typical C.J. Box read. Joe Picket series book about finding about a grizzly attack. He is trying to solve one problem and is brought into another about a prominent judge, and his wife is wounded. It was a fast read and generally pretty good but I wanted a better read from it.

The subplot of the killer grizzlies played no part in the overall story. Box could have done us all a favor by having them devour Joe's mother-in-law from hell Missy.
