I wasn't going to rate this but as I read more (yeah I did read a quote book front to back) I felt I needed to. I wouldn't feel it needed saying if it was only that so few of the quotes really struck me, which is true in itself. No, there were other problems.

I didn't feel the pictures added anything, and by reading the quotes in succession, I actually felt it weakened the collection. That's definitely the opposite of the intention. Quotes should be placed without need to be read in order, but that when you do it adds another layer.

Additionally, I was really offput by the anti-technology quotes in the first "Books" section. It was meant to show an appreciation for the printed word, which I understand and also prefer, but no need to bash ebooks or television or audio in the process. One reader should never feel superior to another because their methods differ, and the book's condescending tone fails to take into account accesibility and is abelist.

Lastly, but certainly not least was the absolute male, whiteness of the collection. Why are we getting quotes from Bob Dylan (not even a writer of books) and Woody Allen (come on) and Pablo Picasso (a painter??) And zero quotes from acclaimed and important writers like Toni Morrison, Langston Hughes, or Maya Angelou?? Not acceptable, and the books weaknesses showed.
